San Pablo Creek is our hidden treasure. Imagine strolling along a path listening to the babbling of the brook as you walk around town to do your errands or head to BART. The riparian canopy provides cool shade in summer where children look for crawdads and frogs or small mammal footprints. Envision benches where people can take a break or bring a picnic and perhaps a creekside café. While you’re at it, envision the businesses turning around to the face the creek and the path you are walking on...
Friends of Orinda Creeks plans to go to construction on Phase I of the Downtown San Pablo Creek Restoration Project in summer 2022! Your tax deductible donations are critical to meeting this target. Donations will help us complete our designs and go to bid this Spring, as well as go towards construction itself. Contributions will also help us apply for matching grants for later phases of the project. The cost of this phase is approximately $125,000 for removal of dilapidated concrete channel and replacement with boulder step weirs that fish are capable of migrating over. Proposed work includes full hydraulic modeling to maximize flood protection and obtain agency approval.
To date we have raised almost $50,000 in donations from private citizens, local organizations such as the Orinda Parks Foundation and Gateway Alliance, as well as a grant from the Contra Costa Fish and Wildlife Committee. Please donate below to help us achieve the first-ever creek restoration project in downtown Orinda!
